BRONCO AXLE INSTALL PROJECT
Axles from an 05' Ford Super Duty D60/10.50
Got the front drive shaft in and decided to try and flex it again. The rear is definitely the downfall of my flex... that will change later :) Need to mount the shocks and finish welding the front radius arms.
THANKS SAM! Got the other two wheels finished up, new centers, new rock rings, internal beadlock cages installed. Set the pinion angle and welded the rear perches. Tested it out a little on the RTI Ramp, wouldn't do to good with LS rear and only two wheel drive... :)
IT DROVE UNDER IT'S OWN POWER :) Had to decide if I wanted to move the rear axle back or shorten the drive shaft 4.5".... It has been to long since I drove it, so I decided to hold off on the rear axle move, and just shortened the drive shaft for now..
Whohoo! 2 of the 4 wheels done.. Man that is some work.. But well worth it :) I think they turned out great, the two tone black on blue looks good.. Will get some pics during the day. Rear drive shaft just needs to be shortened about 4"... would rather do that right now than move the rear axle back... I know, I know, don't shoot.. It has been down to long :)
On it's own weight for the first time in a long time. Drive shafts and brakes, then finish up the wheels. Should be finished up here in a couple weeks. Will have a little bump steer, the track bar may be changed later..
More progress, got the wheels re-centered to 4" of back spacing using Dean Reed's centers and rock rings. Still need a track bar, brake lines and drive shafts..
On it's own weight finally for a pic
Brake clearance with 4" of back spacing is still pretty close :)
Radius Arms tacked up.. Need to make a brace between them still
Proof that they were built not bought :)
Old Mount Removal
EVOlution Machine Heim Joints. 1.25"
Front Axle Location. May move it back about 3"
Clearance Pics and Front Axle.
Test Radius Arms 2
Test Radius Arms 1
Rear Axle in place using stock perches, just took my time and cut them off... thought of getting the MORE perches, but remembered I was doing an anti wrap bar so it would be a waste.. She is just clamped in place, need to get some shorter u-bolts, and a drive shaft flange so I can set the pinion angle.
Test Fit of wheels. Will need to grind the calipers a little, but not enough to worry me at all.
The axles are under the Bronco to see what I am up against :) Some of the pics showing the front axle have it a little to far forward...it will not be that far forward..but I will move it forward some. Not planning to use the stock radius arms I plan to make some from DOM and use Heim's on the back end.
Well it is on Jack Stands, those tall jack stands are the HEAT!!
